Noah sat there with Kevin, Luke, and Casey while they talked about sports, something Noah couldn’t really follow along with. Sure he knew the basic concept: one team loses, one team wins, people go crazy. But other than that, it was like a different language with them talking stats and scores and players names.

The bell rang and he gathered his things and put them in his book bag and saw Luke standing there waiting for him.

“Ready to go to creative writing with Mr. Shultz and his forehead?”

Noah smiled because earlier he was nervous what Luke would do after Casey and Kevin went back to class. He wasn’t sure if he’d talk to him, or want to walk with him to class. But he did, and that made Noah feel better than he’s felt in a long time.

“Uh, yeah sure. I don’t really have a choice do I?”

“No, you don’t,” Luke said with a grin while he titled his head to the side.

They started to walk towards the class in the extremely long hall, but neither of them spoke for a few moments.

“So, how is this ‘getting to know each other’ thing gonna work if we don’t talk,” Luke asked.

“Well,” Noah was beginning to blush, “ok. Um, I don’t really like creative writing class. I just signed up because I had an open spot to fill.”

“Then why don’t you just switch classes,” Luke asked with a chuckle.

“I think you know why,” Noah said, looking into Luke’s eyes.

Luke glanced around before saying, “Noah Mayer are you flirting with me?”

”I don’t know Luciano, am I?”

“Hey, you promised,” Luke said while play punching Noah on the arm with a smile on his face.

“I know, I know. I’m sorry,” Noah said putting his hands up.

“I’ll let you get by with it just this once.”

“Thanks.”

Noah saw Luke smile at Noah and all of the sudden he couldn’t wait until they left for fall break. 15 days. He was counting.

“Well, since you’re being the big flirt today, I thought I’d tell you that you look really good today,” said Luke with an impish grin.

“Are you always this forward with people,” Noah said with a laugh.

“No. Just you,” Luke said, returning the laugh.

Noah and Luke continued to walk to class in a comfortable silence. Noah knew that a normal couple would be holding hands right now, walking to class, but he knew he couldn’t do that. He didn’t know what they were, let alone be caught holding hands in school were everyone would know. He couldn’t help but think what kids would do if they knew about him and Luke. Noah knew what they did to Gabe, and he didn’t even have a…whatever Luke is to Noah. Someone he’s made out with once and technically slept with.

They were walking side by side and Noah could feel Luke’s hand brush against his own. He felt this…this rush when Luke’s hand brushed his. He looked up at Luke to see if he felt it too, and by the look on Luke’s face, he did.

Noah and Luke soon arrived to class. They sat at their respective seats, steeling glances at each other every now and then.

The teacher went on with class, but Noah could only think about Luke. He’s only known him for a week and a half and has already had all these feelings for him. Again, he wasn’t quite sure what these feelings were, but he knew he like them. Noah thought that maybe things were moving way too fast, but then again, nothing like this has ever happened to Noah before. He honestly didn’t know it could happen to him.

The boy next to Noah continued to talk and talk, while Noah just ignored him and tried to listen to the teacher for the first time since this class started. Noah caught bits and pieces of the conversation, but he looked over at Luke writing notes down then pausing and tapping the pen against his mouth.

He made himself look away before anyone caught him sneaking glances at Luke. He didn’t want people to know what was going on between him and Luke because he didn’t know what was going on between him and Luke, and he didn’t want to make Luke uncomfortable.

The bell rang at last and Noah walked over to Luke.

“Hey, listen, I need to stay here and ask about this paper, is that ok?”

“Yeah, of course. I’ll, uh, I’ll see you later.”

“Yeah,” Luke said with that grin again, “I’ll see you later.”


Noah turned and walked out of the class and down the hall. He really wanted it to be fall break, and soon.

Two weeks can go by extremely fast if you actually have friends and places to go. Noah had these things now, and it made a world of difference.

Noah and Luke talked every Saturday and hung out with the gang on Friday, so they were beginning to really know each other.

Noah was so excited, because tonight, he was going over to Luke’s house with his father to meet Luke’s family before leaving for Branson tomorrow.
