Luke? Luke? Are you ok baby? Noah said getting more worried about his boyfriend by the second. He just sat there staring out of the window eyes widened in shock. He looked scared. Luke, please talk to me. What’s wrong? Noah asked squeezing Luke’s hands a little tighter. It - it can’t be him.. I just can’t.. Luke said eyes still fixed on whatever it was that was outside that diner . Noah turned around to see what his boyfriend was looking at. He saw nothing out of the ordinary. People shopping, a couple kissing on a bench, people talking, mothers with kids. Luke, please tell me what’s wrong. Who do you see? Noah said trying to get Luke to focus on him again. Luke squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head. Sorry baby he said when he saw the worried look on his boyfriend’s face. I thought I saw someone..but I probably just imagined it. Then he noticed a photo of Luke and some guy with their arms around each other, smiling, looking happy. And another one where the guy kissed Luke’s cheek. He started to feel a little uncomfortable and wanted to get the hell away from this place. Then lily returned. Here you go. She said as she handed Kevin the pen and the piece of paper. He wrote down his phone number and put the note and the pen on the table glancing at the photo’s again. Is- is that Luke’s uh boyfriend? He heard himself ask. Yes that is our Noah. Lily smiled when she mentioned Noah’s name. Luke looks happy. Kevin said. This Noah must be a good guy then I guess. Yes they’re very happy together and Noah is a very good guy. Lily said smiling. Oh uh right well uh sorry that I disturbed you Mrs. Snyder. I have to go Kevin said as he rushed out the door.

I’ll call the school back and tell them you and Noah are picking Nat up. See you tonight darling. Bye. She said and hung up. Bye – mum Luke said as he noticed his mother had already hung up. What was that all about? Noah asked. Nat is ill and she needs picking up at school. But my mum has a meeting and my dad is out of town so she asked if we could pick her up and look after her until my mum gets back from work. Luke explained. Oh ok well let’s go then. Noah said grabbing his jacket and his car keys.

A little while later the boys arrive at Nat’s school and Luke grabs Noah’s hand. Hey don’t worry she’s probably just got the flu or something. She’ll be fine in a few days. Noah says and softly kisses Luke’s hand. You are amazing you know that Noah Mayer. Luke says smiling and kisses his boyfriend’s lips. Noah breaks the kiss and smiles. Come on let’s go get your sister. Hi my name is Luke Snyder, I’m here to pick my little sister Natalie up. She got ill. Luke said to the janitor. The man looked up from the magazine he was reading and looked at Luke and Noah, his gaze stopping at their clasped hands. He shot the boys a disapproving look and then said: You’re Natalie Snyder’s brother huh? She’s in room 25. That way. The man pointed to a hallway to his right and picked his magazine up again and continued reading.
That guy was rude! Luke said as Noah dragged him down the hallway looking for room 25. Did you see the way he looked at us when he saw us holding hands? Ah here it is room 25 Noah said and stopped in front of a classroom door. And will you just get over that guys rudeness already? Since when do you care what people think? Just ignore him. Noah said clearly annoyed. Luke was shocked. Noah hardly ever talked to anyone like that. Let alone him. Noah saw the look of shock on his boyfriend’s face and immediately regretted the way he had just spoken to Luke. I’m sorry baby, I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just that were here for Nat. Who cares what that guy thinks? Noah said affectionately. Yeah you’re right. Luke said and knocked on the door and entered the classroom.
Hi, I’m Luke, Natalie’s brother. I’m coming to pick her up. Luke said to the teacher. Oh yes, Natalie your brother is here. The woman said getting up and walking over to where the girl was sitting. Natalie looked up and saw her brother and Noah and walked over to them. Hey mum told me you didn’t feel well. What’s wrong? Luke asked his sister. I want to go home. The girl said. That’s where were going, sweetie. Luke told her. You’re coming home with us for a while until your mum gets back from work. Noah said. We can watch a DVD if you want. The girl nodded. Oh here this is her bag and her jacket the teacher said as she handed them to Luke. Thank you. He said. I’ll carry her to the truck, you take her stuff. Noah said lifting the girl up from the ground. It was the sweetest thing Luke had ever seen and he fell in love with Noah even more right there and then.

Home sweet home. Luke said opening the door to their apartment as Noah carried his now sleeping little sister inside. I’ll just put her in our bed, shall I? Noah said. Yeah ok. I’ll call my mum tell her we made it home in one piece. Luke said as he grabbed the phone and dialled Lily’s number. Hey mum, it’s me Luke , you’re probably in your meeting right now but I just thought I’d let you know all 3 of us made it home in one piece. See you tonight, bye. Luke said and hung up and walked towards the bedroom. Is she still sleeping? Yeah Noah said softly closing the bedroom door. She kind of woke up when I took her shoes off but she’s fast asleep now. You know you two looked really cute together at that school? Luke said as he pulled Noah down on the sofa next to him. You with Nat in your arms is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. Noah just smiled and kissed Luke because he didn’t really know what to say. You’re going to be a great dad someday, Noah. Luke said. I don’t know about that.. Noah said blushing slightly. Do you uh ever think about that? Having kids someday? He continued. Yeah I definitely want kids someday. Luke answered. What about you? Have you ever thought about it? Uh yeah I have.. but I don’t think I’ll be a very good father. I’m actually scared I’ll be like my father. Noah said. You are nothing like that man! You’ll be an amazing father someday, I just know it. Luke said smiling at him.
At that exact moment Noah decided he was going to keep the promise he had made to Luke a few months earlier. The day he had hurt Luke more than he ever could imagine. The day the whole nightmare with Ameera and the ICE had started. He was really going to do it soon. He was going to make sure him and Luke would get “one of those” with their names on it soon.
