A/N: Just so you guys know, I just came up with yet another twist for this story, which sort of divides into two twists, so this story will be going on for a very long time. Yes, a very very long time. :)

---------------------
Neither boy had spoken a word since they left the hotel. They drove back to the farm, and Luke was now sitting on the couch, staring unseeingly into the flame of the fireplace while Noah went to get them drinks.

“So, what do you think?” Noah asked, setting two drinks onto the coffee table and slumping onto the couch beside Luke.
Luke just shrugged, “I don’t know,” he muttered, finally looking over at Noah with sad eyes.

“That was him, then?” Noah asked, in a voice that clearly said he’d been hoping that Luke had gone to school with more than one Kevin, “Kevin? The first guy you fell for?”

“Yeah,” Luke said so softly Noah wasn’t sure if he’d actually said it aloud. Then in a voice only a little louder, he continued, “Never thought I’d see him again after high school.”

“I don’t like this,” Noah said simply, leaning forward was his elbows on his knees.

“Me neither,” Luke replied, sliding an arm over Noah’s shoulder and burying his face in the back of Noah’s shoulder.

“Of all the guys Rose could’ve run into,” Noah said, now glaring hard at the flames that danced innocently in the fireplace.

Luke stayed silent for a moment, weighing the odds of Noah’s outburst if he said what he was thinking, but finally decided it needed to be said, “Maybe he’s changed,” he whispered, and moved as he felt Noah jerk back, now staring at Luke incredulously, “I mean, at least he’s not homophobic anymore,” he added quickly, “I mean, he was a bit uncomfortable, but I think that was just because it was me with another guy, not just two random guys. I don’t think he ever really accepted the fact that I’m gay.”

Noah just turned back to glaring at the flames for a moment, then looked at Luke again, his expression softened, “You know, I never really knew how he treated you,” he said quietly, “All you told me was that you two weren’t friends anymore. Since he’s dating my sister, I think I need the rest of the story.”

“You really want to hear it?” Luke asked with a sigh, leaning back into the couch and crossing his arms, staring at his knees.
“No,” Noah said, shaking his head, “But I need to know if he’ll hurt Rose.”

Luke shrugged a bit, “I don’t know about that, but he used to be a great guy,” he said. He took a deep breath and shot into the story, “He was my best friend, like I told you. He went through everything with me. You know I had that drinking problem, which I still partially blame him for, since he was always the one who convinced me to go to the parties and drink. But after my kidney transplant, I started drinking again right away, and Kevin was quick to try and tell me I shouldn’t be drinking just out of the hospital, and with a new kidney. I blew him off, of course, but still, he tried,” Luke rubbed his eyes, recalling all of the memories he had tried so hard to push away.

“Jade was the only one who knew I liked Kevin; and she was the first to know I was gay, too. Will was the next to know, though I don’t think he really knew how much I liked Kevin. It all went downhill after that. Kevin was the person I was most scared to come out to when I finally did. Even if he didn’t feel the same way, which I knew he didn’t, I didn’t want to lose him as a friend,” Luke felt Noah’s finger against his face, and realized that Noah was wiping away a tear that Luke hadn’t known escaped. He shook his head a bit, forcing back those that were still threatening to fall, “Anyways, we went on this trip to Raven Lake. Jade convinced me to go, and to come out to Kevin on the trip.

“He was mad at me, cause I’d left him and our dates,” Luke spat the word out in disgust, “Without a car when I freaked out and left. So he wasn’t too happy about talking with me. I started by just telling him that I had a secret that I couldn’t hide anymore. He started feeling guilty, because he thought there was a problem with my kidney again, but when I told him it wasn’t, he was being really nice again. He almost seemed like the best friend I’d had before. He said that I could trust him, and I could always tell him anything, and asked what the secret was,” Luke licked his lips uncomfortably, “So, I told him. And he didn’t say a word. He just walked right past me and went back out to his girlfriend.”

Luke gave a humorless laugh and tried to smile at Noah, “Well, you know I’m not that easy to get rid of; so I found him, and said I needed to talk to him again. He was even more pissed off then, but he came with me. We talked for a few minutes until Jade came, and she let slip that I was in love with Kevin,” Noah’s face was shocked, but he remained silent, “Then he threatened to beat me up, and left again. But he was still trying to be a friend then, I think; or maybe I was fooling myself,” Luke closed his eyes, and he could still remember exactly what Kevin said, “He said, ‘I could never be friends with-’ and then he stopped himself before he could say something worse. I always think that that had to be some sense of friendship still there, since he didn’t want to say something so mean.

“But, of course, he had to anyways. He went out in the kayak with some of the other kids, and he was drunk. And he looked over at the shore, and I was standing there. And he made a toast to the faggot,” Luke swallowed, swiping away a tear before it hit his cheek, “So, that’s basically the worst he did to me,” he said, forcing a smile as he looked back at Noah, “I mean, he apologized for it and everything.”

Noah just nodded, unsure of what to say as he looked down at the floor. Then, remembering the inside joke from earlier, he glanced back up at Luke, “Hey, what did you mean earlier? About making Rose promise to not hit Kevin with a canoe paddle?”
Luke smiled a little and let out a small laugh, “Kevin’s girlfriend at the time, hit Kevin with a canoe paddle cause he stole her bikini top, and dove in the water, and she couldn’t swim. So he was unconscious, but she was just sitting in the boat freaking out, so I dove in to save him,” he looked back up at Noah and smiled, “I mentioned it because I don’t know if I would save him this time,” he said jokingly, though the humor was lost on Noah, who didn’t look like he would mind if Kevin drowned.

“Oh, I was gonna ask you,” Noah said, with a lighter tone as he looked back at Luke and slid an arm around his waist, “Did you see what was on the ground outside when we came in?”

“No,” Luke said, shaking his head, “I wasn’t really thinking straight; I was a little out of it,” he admitted.

Noah nodded, “It was a bouquet of purple roses,” he said with an air of curiosity to his voice, “They had tire tracks on them, like someone had just thrown them down and run over them.”

“Aaron,” Luke muttered, squeezing his eyes together and burying his face in Noah’s shoulder.

“What?” Noah asked, looking strangely at Luke.

“Aaron,” Luke repeated, “He was here just before we left earlier. He had some the bouquet, and was talking about some girl he was going to ask out. I didn’t get who he meant until he left, but I realized that he started acting weird after I said that we were going to meet Rose’s boyfriend,” he felt Noah shift uncomfortably, but ignored it, “I think he was going to ask Rose out tonight…”

“Wow,” Noah muttered in surprise, “Well, I think I would definitely pick Aaron for Rose over Kevin.”

Luke chuckled softly against Noah’s shoulder, “Yeah, me too,” he sighed a bit, “But what can we do to change it? We can’t tell her who to date.”

“You can’t,” Noah said, “But I’m her older brother, she has to listen to me.”

Luke punched him softly on the shoulder, “You can’t tell her who to date,” he repeated.

“I guess not,” Noah muttered, rolling his eyes, though Luke could tell he was unhappy with the fact.

Smiling slightly, Luke decided to try and put him in a better mood. He raised his head up and pulled Noah’s face down to meet him, kissing him softly at first, but opened his mouth quickly to allow Noah to deepen the kiss. He shifted his hand, rubbing it softly on Noah’s thigh before moving it to grasp his crotch through his jeans. Noah moaned in his mouth, and Luke moved his hand slowly up to the button on his jeans.

“Luke? Noah? You guys home yet?” They broke apart at the sound of the voice, both trying to catch their breath.

Luke was surprised at how steady Noah’s voice was as he called back, “Yeah, we’re in here.”

Aaron’s face appeared in the doorway, and his eyes immediately snapped to Luke, “So, how did the date go?” he asked in a forced casual tone.

“Oh, you’ll never guess who Rose’s mystery guy was,” Luke said, raising his eyebrows at Aaron.

“Who? Aaron asked in mild interest, though Luke could tell he really didn’t want to know.

“Kevin Davis.”

“Kevin?” Aaron asked, his eyes wide, “Are you serious?” Luke nodded at him, “So how did that go over?”

“It was the most awkward date of my life,” Luke said brightly, grinning at Aaron, “And of his life too, probably,” he added with a laugh.

Aaron smiled slightly, and Luke had trouble telling if he was annoyed that someone like Kevin could beat him, or happy that his competition was almost nonexistent, “Well, I’m going to bed. Luke, you’re doing the barn chores tomorrow morning?”
“Yeah,” Luke said, nodding slightly, “Did you already bring them in?”

Aaron nodded, “Alright, well, good night then,” he said, throwing a glance at Noah for the first time since he’d come in.

Noah looked back at Luke sadly, “Well, I guess we should get to bed if you have to get up early for the barn chores,” he said regretfully.

“Yeah,” Luke muttered standing up as Noah did, “So I’ll come by Java on your lunch break tomorrow?”

“Uh, actually I have something to do on my lunch break,” Noah muttered, slipping an arm around Luke’s waist as they started for the stairs.

“Like what?” Luke asked, looking at him strangely when they stopped outside Luke’s bedroom.

Noah just shook his head, pulling Luke in for one more searing kiss before he turned towards his room, “Don’t worry about it.”
