Monday morning brought no surprises, as everything went along as it always did. Noah was a bit jumpy all day, but thankfully he didn’t have to see Luke until he got back from class in the afternoon, so the blonde wouldn’t notice, and when he did, Noah would be revealing the reason why he was so jumpy.
Noah had had a talk with Holden the day before, and knew exactly what he was going to say, though the discussion with Holden hadn’t given him much insight, just knowing that Holden supported him would give Noah enough nerve for what he had to do.
((A/N: You don’t actually need to read it to know what’s going on, but if you’d like, you can read “How to (Not) Plan a Wedding,” for that discussion. I just didn’t want to copy it here, and didn’t know how to write it a different way.))
----------------------
Luke dropped Rose off at the high school on his way to class, calling out the window after her, “Hey, my professor cancelled my three o’clock class today; want me to pick you up?”
“No thanks,” Rose said brightly, “Kevin is gonna pick me up. We’re gonna get something to eat, and he’ll take me back to the Lakeview. Thanks though.” She left before she could see the grimace on Luke’s face.
Shaking his head, Luke pulled out of the parking lot and started toward the college, “Don’t trust him,” he muttered angrily under his breath.
----------------------
Hours later, Luke walked into the house, dropping his bag into a chair and getting a drink from the fridge.
“Hey Luke,” a voice called from behind him, and Luke turned to see Noah smiling at him.
“Hey Noah,” Luke said, his drink forgotten as he walked over to Noah and wrapped his arms around his neck, planting a firm kiss on his lips.
“Why don’t we take a walk down to the pond?” Noah asked with a smile, now much more confident as he stared at his boyfriend’s smiling face. Soon to be ‘fiancé.’ he thought proudly.
“Sounds great,” Luke said, releasing his hold around Noah neck and taking his hand instead, but Noah pulled his hand away, sliding his arm around Luke’s waist instead. Luke smiled at him, sliding as arm around Noah’s waist as well.
Noah took a deep breath, stopping under a large oak tree beside the pond, and trying to gather his nerve. He still wasn’t quite sure if he was supposed to get down on one knee or not, but decided against it. It still seemed to weird. He turned, wrapping both arms around Luke and looking deep into the cinnamon eyes, smiling at the thought of seeing them every day for the rest of his life.
Luke looked at him curiously, but didn’t say anything as he rest his hands on Noah’s arms, “Luke,” Noah started, and had to stop to swallow the lump that had formed in his throat, “When I first met you, I thought you were an amazing person. I didn’t know why then, or maybe I did, I just didn’t realize it, but I wanted to be around you. I never thought I could love another man. I never thought I could feel this way at all. I never thought someone would care enough to break down the barriers I put around my heart to keep it safe after what my father did to me. But you proved me wrong, Luke. At every turn. You never gave up on me, even when I wanted to give up on myself. You can be stubborn and demanding, but I wouldn’t want you to be any other way. I love you more than I ever thought was possible, and I love you more and more every day. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” as he spoke the last line, he reached slowly into his pocket, but he didn’t think Luke noticed, as his brown eyes were focused intently on Noah’s blue ones, “Luke Snyder,” he whispered softly, prying the box open and holding it out to Luke, and spoke the four words he never dreamed of saying to another man, “Will you marry me?”
Luke’s mouth fell open and Noah wondered vaguely if he was even breathing as his eyes fell in disbelief to the ring, then rose to meet Noah’s eyes again, unshed tears shining within them. Before he knew it, Luke’s hands were tangled in his hair and his lips moved fervently against Noah’s with a heat and passion that Noah had never known existed.
They broke apart, both breathing heavily, though grinning, “So is that a yes?” Noah asked cheekily.
“Of course it’s a yes!” Luke laughed, unable to stop grinning as Noah took the ring and slid it onto Luke’s finger. Luke deep breath, wrapping his arms around Noah’s neck as Noah slid the empty ring box into his pocket and pulled Luke impossibly closer to him.
Luke pulled Noah to the ground and rolled over so that Noah was on his back, Luke straddling his waist, grinning down at him. Luke put his left hand on his cheek and Noah closed his eyes, reveling in the feel of the cold metal against his skin, then felt Luke’s lips capture his own. Noah moaned softly into his mouth, tangling his hands in Luke’s hair and pulling the blonde fully on top of him.
The air thickened around them, and breaths came in gasps between passionate kisses. Luke reached down between them and undid the button of Noah’s jeans, but Noah broke the kiss and pulled back as much as he could, being pinned to the ground, “Luke, not here. Your parents could be home any minute.”
“So let them see,” Luke said, leaning down to capture Noah’s mouth again, “Let them see me out here with my fiancé,” he said softly against Noah’s lips.
Noah moaned in response, “I love the sound of that,” he whispered back, giving up the fight as he felt Luke’s hand unzip his jeans and slips a hand inside to touch Noah through his boxers. Luke heard Noah’s sharp intake of breath at the touch.
“Boys? Are you out here? Dinner’s ready!” Emma’s voice rang out from the house.
“Damnit,” Luke cursed, pulling back, and for the moment he was extremely thankful that this side of the pond was well out of sight from the house. Noah groaned, sitting up as he redid his jeans and stood up, “I can’t wait to get our place,” Luke said, planting one more kiss on Noah’s lips before taking his hand and starting towards the house.
“Well why not just jump the gun?” Noah saidsarcastically with a laugh, “You got the ring, now let’s talk about houses!”
Luke laughed, pulling him closer, “You know that’s not what I meant,” he said, holding his left hand out in front of him and looking at the ring, “You made me the happiest man alive tonight, even with my grandma’s interruption,” he added with a laugh.
“Yeah, well we better get up there while there’s still food,” Noah said, walking faster and pulling Luke along with him, “You know your grandma’s cooking goes faster than any food I’ve seen in my life.” Luke just rolled his eyes, and Noah’s face turned more serious, “Hey, where’s Rose at? I thought you were going to pick her up.”
Luke sighed, rubbing a hand over his face, “I offered, but she said that Kevin was picking her up and taking her out to eat,” he felt Noah’s hand tighten around his and a scowl crossed his lips, “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to let her go with him, but what was I supposed to say? They’re dating, so I guess she has a right to go out with him.”
Noah shook his head, sighing softly, “Yeah, I know, I just don’t like the idea of her being with Kevin of all people.”
Luke nodded, “I know, but just stop worrying about it so much. He seems a lot nicer than he was in high school. It’ll work out one way or another.”
