“Ready to go?” Kevin asked, opening his trunk and taking Rose’s backpack to stow it inside.

“Yeah,” she said brightly, bringing a small smile to Kevin’s face as he slid into the driver’s seat, Rose already buckling her seat belt in the passenger’s seat, “Where are we going?” she asked, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear as Kevin pulled out of the parking lot.

“I was thinking Al’s, if that’s ok with you? Just something casual,” Kevin said, shrugging slightly.

“Sounds great,” Rose said, “I haven’t been there yet.”

“You’ll love it,” he assured her, and they fell into a comfortable silence on the way to the restaurant.

------------------

Grinning, Luke pulled Noah into the kitchen behind him and turned to face the family, who were all seated at the table, looking as though they were just waiting for the boys to begin dinner, “Before dinner,” Luke said brightly, though he tried to make his voice sound more formal, “We have an announcement we’d like to make.”

Luke looked back at Noah, who was grinning like an idiot as he held Luke’s left hand in his right one. He raised Luke’s hand to face his family, shifting his thumb so that the ring was visible, “We’re engaged!”

Cheers, gasps and sobs, (the latter mostly from Lily,) rang through the room as everyone stood to congratulate them. For the next minute or so, they were patted repeatedly on the backs, hugged more times than either cared to count, and listened to more “Congratulations” than either one had heard since his graduation.

“Now, now,” Emma called, bringing everyone back to the table and giving Luke and Noah room to breathe as they took their seats as well, “I believe a toast, to Luke and Noah!” Everyone at the table raised their glasses with more cheers and echoing, “To Luke and Noah!”

-----------------

“Thanks, that was great,” Rose said, unbuckling her seatbelt when they got back to the Lakeview after dinner.

“My pleasure,” Kevin said pleasantly, “We’ll have to do this again sometime.”

“Definitely,” Rose said breathlessly, her breath catching in her throat as Kevin leaned over the seat and caught her lips in his. She kissed him back, but he pulled away all too soon.

She got up to her room and locked the door behind her, biting her lip to keep to from screaming in pure joy. The joy of having someone with her. The happiness of having someone who cared about her in a more-than-brotherly way. The ecstasy of her first kiss. Yes, sixteen and her first kiss. First boyfriend, too, now that she considered the fact. Guys had asked her out, but she was always a bit shy, and never really felt the need to go out with them. Yeah, she’d been on a date once, when her best friend from California had set her up on a blind date, which ended terribly.

Rose wouldn’t go as far as to call this her ‘first love’ but she had hopes and dreams that she could soon call Kevin that without hesitation.

-------------------

Luke’s grin never left his face, through dinner and now as he sat with Noah outside on the porch.

“Are you ever going to stop staring at that?” Noah asked with a laugh, and Luke tore his eyes away from the ring to look up at him, “I’m starting to wonder if you love that ring more than me.”

“Oh I don’t think that’s possible,” Luke said, smirking softly as he raised a hand to run through Noah’s hair.
“Oh really?” Noah asked teasingly, “I’m not so sure.”

“Well maybe I should convince you,” Luke muttered in an undertone, leaning up to capture Noah’s lips in his, pulling his head towards him.

Noah grinned slightly before responding to the kiss, turning his head to the side to allow Luke better access as he opened his mouth, moaning in pleasure when Luke’s tongue started to massage his own. He felt Luke’s hand slide lower, his fingers running across the top of the waistband of his jeans. When Luke’s hand stopped on the button, Noah grabbed his hand to stop him, “Luke, your grandma’s still awake in the living room. She’s gonna come out here to say good-night before she goes upstairs.”

Luke groaned, burying his face in Noah’s shoulder, “I can’t wait until our wedding night,” he said, raising his head to look up at Noah, “And you’ll finally be mine, and we won’t have to worry about anyone else.”

“If not before then,” Noah sighed, leaning his forehead against Luke’s, “But we’ll be together. I promise you that. One way or another, we will be.” He closed the distance between them, planting a searing kiss on Luke’s lips that left him breathless, “I love you,” he whispered softly into the darkness surrounding them.

“I love you too,” Luke said back in a voice barely audible, as though anything louder would ruin the perfect moment.

--------------

“What would you like to drink, Sir?” the stewardess spoke to the dark-haired man, sitting in first class and looking like he belonged no where else in his dark suit and neatly combed hair.

“A burgundy wine, please,” Damien said, tearing his eyes from the window to look at her, “Thank you,” he added politely taking the drink from her and sipping a bit from it. He swirled the contents of the glass around, watching the red liquid danced from one side of the glass to the other.

Sighing slightly, he resumed his practice of staring out the airplane window, his mind still running over possible situations for what he had to do. He could only think of two weaknesses his son had: drinking, and his kidney, which, when used together could do the job for him. But Luke had given up drinking a while ago. I just need something else to make him start drinking again. A third weakness.
