They let him get out of the hospital after a good night sleep and after making him eat something. The doctor was nice enough to get him some real food from a nearby coffee shop. They had breakfast together and she made him promise that he was going to take care of himself. She gave him her phone number and told him to call if he needed anything. He didn’t know why she had been so nice, but it had been good, had felt like someone cared for him.

He decided to walk home, it wasn’t that far, was it? Didn’t really know, but he needed some fresh air after spending the night at the hospital. He started to feel dizzy and decided to sit at the park near his apartment. He felt some sort of calm within himself; it was new, and welcomed. Didn’t know how long it would last, but he wasn’t about to complain.

The doctor had told him that he was going to feel dizzy and maybe even confused for a while. It will pass soon as long as he eats and sleeps better. Yeah… like that was going to happen anytime soon…

He saw kids playing and decided to sit at a bench for a while. The idea of going home wasn’t very appealing, so he was delaying it as much as he could.

“Hi, Noah”

Noah looked al the kid… it was Aaron… Luke’s son

“Hi, Aaron, what are you doing here?”

Please, tell me you are not here with both your fathers, please…

“I came with Daddy, I wanted to play football”

“That’s good”

“Do you want to come and have supper with us?”

“What?”

He saw Luke coming up behind Aaron. He looked so happy… Noah felt like crying just seeing him looking so good, so settled.

“Hi, Noah”

“Hi”

“You okay? You look pale…”

“I am fine”

There it was, the damn sentence again, I am fine…

“You don’t seem fine, what’s wrong?”

And Luke wasn’t buying it either

“It’s okay, really. Actually, I should get going…”

He stood up and the world started spinning around, he tried to steady himself holding on to something, but everything was moving and couldn’t get hold of anything

“Noah?”

“I am fine, I really am…”

He sat back down… he was just going to wait for a few seconds, enough for the world to stop moving…

“I’ll just sit for a bit more… “

“You sure?”

“Yes, go on. You don’t have to stay.”

“Okay…”

Luke left with Aaron. Noah looked at them holding hands walking away from him. Shit, that’s all he had ever wanted. Luke, a family…
