Noah awoke to the sound of banging emanating from the adjacent room. He rubbed his head and groggily took a look at the alarm clock which rested on his bedside table. It was 10:30am. He had overslept.
Noah blamed it on the tiresome day before. He still couldn’t believe everything that was going on in his life at the moment. He had a sister. This meant a lot of things for him.
He could finally let go of his father and all his wickedness. He no longer felt alone in the world. This would be different. He would finally have family that he could be with, that would accept him for who he was.
This thought haunted Noah every time he thought of his sister. Luke had done all these things for him. Luke had given him happiness. He had shown him how to be who he truly was and to be happy for that. Luke had become the love of his life, he had given him family. How could he abandon Luke like this?
Noah’s head hurt. All of these thoughts were swirling in his mind, and he could not for the life of him make any sense of them.
His heart hurt too. He couldn’t believe that he and Luke were fighting again. After everything that had happened between them, they were finally going to be able to be happy, and then this happens.
“Typical Noah,” he thought to himself. “Always abandoning the people I love.”
Noah sighed miserably as he fingered a piece of paper sitting on the table. On it was written the address of St. Bernadette’s home. He picked it up and took a good look. The area was familiar to Noah, he remembered growing up in the area until he was around seven years old.

But, what about Luke?
This thought haunted Noah every time he thought of his sister. Luke had done all these things for him. Luke had given him happiness. “Everything will get better as soon as I find her.”
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gravel spewed in every direction as Noah’s truck plowed up the dilapidated driveway to St. Bernadette’s. His jaw dropped in shock as he came to a halt in front of the property’s cast iron gates. They were closed, each side joined to the other by a series of heavily rusted chains joined by padlocks. The entire property looked absolutely unkempt, its glory and prestige cloaked eerily in abandonment.
Noah was determined to find his sister. He had risked losing the love of his life to find her, and he would be damned if he was returning home empty handed. His heart ached for Luke. How he wished that he was here with him. He wanted nothing more than to have his only family with him on the day that he would be reunited with his lost blood ties. This would be one of the most important days of his life.
Noah exited his truck and met the iron giant standing between him and his sister.
“Even if the home is abandoned,” Noah thought to himself, “There must still be records. If I can access the records, I can still find out where she is.”
Noah tugged on rusted chains keeping him away from his sister. They were taught, but after many years of weathering they had become weakened by rust. The first chain fell apart in Noah’s hands after only a few tugs, and subsequently the others followed suit. Noah pushed the gate opened just enough for him to slip by into the courtyard. It was a lot heavier than he thought it would be.
---------------------------------------------------------------
It was dark inside the abandoned home, but the main house was fairly small, and for this Noah was grateful. The sheer size of the estate appeared to Noah to be more for the children, as the largest areas were the housing and grounds. This made it much easier to find the room in which records of the children were kept.
Noah searched filing cabinet after filing cabinet, and he was beginning to lose all hope. Noah leaned against one of the old cabinets, its silver reflecting the light of his flashlight. He brought his hands to his head and buried his face deep in them. How could he be so stupid? He had gone all this way, and for what? Now he was standing in an abandoned children’s home with nothing to show for it but a wasted trip and a broken heart. What was he thinking?
He missed Luke. Thinking about Luke choked him up inside, and Noah was finally at the boiling point. Tears flowed down his face as he let it all go.
His body jerking to the movement of his sobs, Noah’s flashlight reflected hint of blue back into his eyes. A blue cabinet. Something he hadn’t yet searched. It was worth a shot anyway.
Noah wiped the tears from his eyes and made his way over to the cabinet. He pulled it open with swiftness and sifted through its files. He stopped, filled with joy, at the file for Sabrina Kelley. He opened it and confirmed the details.
“ Father: Winston Mayer, Brother: Noah Mayer, Mother: Charlene Wilson.”
Noah’s eyes opened wide at the information he found inside the file.
“Born in St. Louis, Missouri. Given up to the home…..Winston….three years. Sabrina left the home 5 years ago to enter in military service at St. Lois Military Base in order to find her father!!”
Noah couldn’t believe it. Faster than he ever thought he could, Noah made his way out of the abandoned home and into his truck. He would set out right away for the military base.
Noah was feeling so many emotions at the moment and he couldn’t for the life of him figure out which one he wanted to feel. He was excited that he would fins his sister and finally be able to come home to Luke, but at the same time disappointed that he and Luke were not together at this moment to share it. The thought of the two of them together again was the only thing keeping Noah going.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
After making a few calls on the way to those in charge at the facility, Noah was stunned at the events unfolding.
“A young boy by the name of Luke along with his grandmother arrived at this facility only a few hours ago in search of information of the same person. They are currently en route to Sigmund Commons where Miss Kelley currently resides.”
Noah was stunned. Luke had come to help him. How could he be so stupid to have declined him. He missed Luke terribly and wished only to be with him again.
Noah changed his course to head directly for Sigmund Commons. He knew exactly where Sabrina was. In a hunt to find her father, she had moved into their old childhood home.
---------------------------------------------------------------
An emotional Noah threw his truck in park and began to run towards his beloved at his first sight of Luke.
“LUKE!!!”
Luke turned around at the sound of his name being called. He couldn’t believe it, Noah was here. The two embraced a long, loving embrace. Neither could believe that the other was there right now. Noah looked at Luke, Luke at Noah. They both began.
“Im-“
“No, you go.”
“No, you can go.”
“I’m sorry-“
They both looked at each other, both in utter bliss to be with each other. Nothing mattered to them other than being together, not their fight, not anything that had transpired between them. All that mattered was that they were finally together. They finally had each other again.
Luke looked at Noah and then to the house where Sabrina resided.
“Should we do this?”
“ I thought you would never ask.”
Noah pulled Luke in tightly and kissed him fiercely. They joined hands and walked together into Noah’s new life. They were a couple and they would tackle their problems together from now on. As they traversed the steps leading to Sabrina’s house they could both hear the radio playing from Noah’s truck. They both smiled and shared a tear at the last line.
“God bless the broken road that lead me here to you.”
