First I want to give a special thank you to Jeff who came up with the idea for this story to begin with. Thank you darling!!! And for helping me with making the locations realistic. Of course, I’ve made a few twist and turns on my own that I can’t tell you haha!
I also want to thank Maija that have helped me to dwell on music and other things that I can’t really tell you so I don’t give anything away.
The last person I want to thank is my little Goblin, that is going to proof read my chapters! (She hasn’t done it yet though cause she’s away but I wanted to start posting anyway haha)

Chapter 1
Noah opened the door. He was shocked, he couldn’t believe what he just had heard. They had hung up but he still stood with the phone left at his ear, his jaw was literally dropping. Never in his life could he have imagined that things could go this well. He was 27 years old and this was what he had always been striving for, his entire life had been about reaching this point. His goal seemed to be coming true. He didn’t want to get his hopes up too much, not yet, there were still some meetings left to go through but that was mostly technicalities.
“Hi Honey!” Luke yelled from the living room. He had just picked up Emma from kindergarten and she was showing him what she had been drawing.
Noah slowly walked to the living room, he felt more speechless than usual. He leaned against the wall and looked at Luke and Emma, he couldn’t believe how big she had gotten.
Emma looked up and smile when she saw Noah come in. “Dad! Look!” she proudly held up her drawings.
“That’s nice sweetie” he said quietly.
Luke looked at him. “What’s the matter? You look like you’ve seen a ghost”
Noah kept staring down to the floor, he started to smile, it finally dawned on him what this really meant. A tear came rolling down his cheek.
Luke felt even more confused. “What’s going on?”
Noah looked up and smiled through his happy tears. “They just called”
“What do you mean?” Luke looked at Noah for answers when he realised what he must mean. “You mean they called?” He could feel himself getting all excited, he stood up. “What did they say? Did you get it?”
Noah didn’t say anything, he was still so shocked. Luke got frustrated “Noah! Say something for god sake!”
Noah shook his head to try and bring himself back to reality. “I think I got it….” He said slowly.
“What!!” Luke threw himself in Noah’s arms. “What!? Really?!” He planted a big kiss on Noah’s lips. “Seriously?”
Noah just nodded rapidly. “Yes, yes I think I did!”
“Wait, think?” Luke pushed himself backwards.
“Well I need to go there and meet them, but it sounds like that is just a technicality”
“So this is really happening?”
“I think so”
“Oh my god, I am so happy for you” Luke almost started to cry himself, he hugged Noah tightly and whispered in his ear. “I am so proud of you”
Emma saw her daddies hug and ran up to them and started to hug their legs. “Me too”
They laughed at their girl. Luke bent down to pick her up “Of course sweetie”
“Why are we hugging?” The little girl asked.
“It looks like dad’s got a new job” Luke smiled.
“No…” Emma laughed, it sounded so silly to her, not realising what it really meant to get a new job.
“Yes!” Luke laughed and kissed Noah again.
Emma looked at them and got jealous again. “Me too”
They laughed at her and kissed her at the same time on each cheek that made her giggle. Luke turned his head to Noah again, he couldn’t stop looking and smiling at him.

They had been waiting for this for almost six months. Ever since Noah’s colleague Rob had brought it up it was all that had been on Noah’s mind. A job in L.A. as a director to a national broadcasted tv-show. He had been working at WOAK for the last five years and he had learned a lot but it was time to move on. When one of the executives had told them all that he was moving on to other projects in L.A. the doors had opened. He wanted good people to go with him and Noah was one of them, but there were also a lot of things that had to click before anything could happen. For a while it had looked pretty dark, financial problems, actors that left the project in the last minute and so on, but now it looked like the show was finally on the road. Noah couldn’t help but feel a bit bad though, he knew that Rob was after the same position as him.
Luke had to call his parents and tell them the good news, Holden picked up the phone.
“Guess what?”
“What?” Holden asked.
“Your son and his family are moving to L.A!” Luke almost shouted.
“You mean he got it?!” Luke could hear his father getting excited.
“Looks like it, he needs to go out there and meet with them before everything is set…but yeah, we think that the job is pretty much his”
“Oh my good, that’s fantastic Luke. Give Noah a big hug from your mom and me will you?”
“No problem” Luke laughed. “You’ll tell Nat and Ethan too right? Or do I have to?”
“Of course I will, what do you think?”
Luke shook is head. “Oh yeah, sorry, I can’t think straight, I’m so freaking excited”
Holden quiet down. “I can’t believe you’re moving. L.A is so far. We’ll not be able to see Emma grow up properly”
“We’ll get a webcam and send you loads of videos with her dad, don’t worry. And you do know this thing called airplane”
“Yes, wise guy”
Luke shook his head, his dad was getting so sentimental in later years. “So is Faith there or not?”
Holden laughed. “No, for once she is actually at her own place”
“Oh ok, I’ll call there then to tell her”
“Could you wait with that until tomorrow you think. I know that she and Matt is studying for some exam for tomorrow”
“Better not disturb them then”
“I think they are disturbing each other enough as it is”
Luke and Holden laughed together in mutual understanding.
“Ok, well tell mom and Nat and Ethan the news and hug them for me”
“Will do”

Noah woke up, his head was aching a bit, probably from the champagne they had opened last night to celebrate. He rubbed his eyes to wake up, he looked over at Luke who was still asleep. He knew that this new job would mean a lot of changes for them both, new city, Luke would have to look for a new job, it would be a new life.
“Luke” he whispered. Luke didn’t move. “Are you awake?” Still no answer, he sighed. He pushed on Luke as gently as he dared to. “Luke…Luke….Honey….wake up”
Luke started to move and growl, reminding Noah of a bear that was waking up in his cave.
Luke turned over to Noah and snuggled closer. “Morning”
“So you are awake. I’m sorry I didn’t wake you did I?” Noah asked, hoping that Luke hadn’t noticed his little wake up call.
Luke put his arm around Noah’s waist and he still kept his eyes closed. “Don’t play innocent with me, you know you woke me”
This wasn’t the first time Noah woke him like that.
Noah laughed “You know me too well don’t you?”
Luke opened one eye and looked up at Noah “Well after ten years I kind of do, yeah, you need new material” he laughed.
“I’ll work on it” Noah kissed him. “Morning, by the way”
“That’s better” Luke opened the other eye.
Noah let his finger run up and down Luke’s arm “I’ve been thinking”
“Oh, yeah. What about?”
“I know that we have talked about it many times before….but are you sure that this is what you want?”
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t want to force you to move, to quit your job…I feel awful and last night I didn’t really bother to ask you again if this is really ok…I’m sorry"
Luke sat up and smiled at him. “Noah we have been over this thousands of times. I’ve always knew that L.A. is the place for you, and I want to see you succeed in what you love as well and if that means to move then I’m there with you.”
“Yeah I know…but what about work?”
“I’ll find something new, besides there must be a lot more newspapers out there in la la land than there are here. I know it’s going to be alright, so stop worrying. Start worrying about where we are going to live instead!”
“Oh yeah, they actually mentioned something about that, they talked about some apartments that the studio owned that you could rent until you found something on your own.”
“That sounds great!”
“Close to work as well”
“Wait, where is it anyway?”
“Studio City, they say it’s a really good neighbourhood, safe and all.”
Emma opened their door, she came in holding her teddybear and sucking on her thumb. “Daddy, I’m hungry” she said and then yawned.
Luke reached out his arms. “Come here sweetie” He picked her up in to the bed and placed her between them.
They all enjoyed these lazy mornings. “We’re having breakfast soon”
Emma was too impatient to wait so she started to push on Noah to make him roll out of bed. “Dad, breakfast”
Luke laughed. “Emma go easy on your dad”
She continued to push Noah out. “Ok, ok, how about breakfast in bed then?”
“Yay!” Emma shouted.
Noah went out to the kitchen, he took out the orange juice and drank it right out of the carton. He put it down and looked outside, Oakdale was waking up along with them. Small, familiar Oakdale. Soon he wouldn’t see it outside his window anymore. It was time for a change, a new beginning. He felt excited, afraid, anxious, ecstatic…all at once, he had never been so nervous about anything in his life.
