Chapter 2

"We'll give you some privacy." Gwen and Will went into the kitchen.

Luke answered the phone. "Hello"

Noah answered. "Hi Luke. How are Will and Gwen?"

Luke looked towards the kitchen. "Not too well. I'm not sure if my visit really helped."

Noah tried to reassure Luke. "I'm sure that they are happy that you care."

Luke shrugged. "I guess. How is your study session?"

Noah sighed. "Actually that is why I'm calling. I can't make lunch."

Luke shoulders dropped. "Oh. What's up?"

Noah continued. "I have to go shoot some footage for a project that we are working on, then we are going to meet up and edit it into the stuff that we already have."

Luke tried to be helpful. "Maybe I can come along."

Noah shook his head. "It shouldn't take long. I'm just going up to the woods and get maybe 15 or 20 minutes of converge. If I can get some animals in, it would be great, but I'm not expecting that. It shouldn't take long. We should be done by dinner."

Luke nodded. "Okay. Well, I'll meet you back at the apartment."

Noah smile. "I can't wait to see you."

Luke smiled. "Me either. You drive safely."

Noah nodded. "I will. Love you."

"I love you too." Luke hung up the phone. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Noah pulled off the road and headed down a side road. He figured if he got a little further into the woods he would have a better chance of catching some footage of some wildlife. He finally found a good spot and turned off the engine. He grabbed his video camera out of his backpack and tossed his backpack back on to the passenger seat.

Noah walked a little ways off of the road and found a scenic area. The area was perfect. Being off the beaten path made everything fresh. There was a new layer of snow from a few days prior.

Noah looked around and didn't see much in the way of wildlife. "Oh well, I'll just shoot the area." He put up his camera and started filming, when he thought he saw something off to the side. He put down his camera and sure enough there were two deer over behind the trees.

Noah slowly and quietly move around the tree so that he could get a better shot. While keeping an eye on the deer, he slowly moved closer. He put up his camera and started filming again.

A doe was sitting under a tree. While the buck stood guard above her. He took another step, and because of the snow, he did not notice the slope in the terrain.

Luke decided to stop by Al's for lunch. "Hi Henry."

Henry looked up from wiping the counter. "Luke. How are you?"

Luke smiled. "Fine."

Henry picked up a menu. "Here for lunch?"

Luke nodded. "Yeah, but I don't need a menu. Just a burger and fries with a cola."

Henry turned to put in the order. "Coming right up."

Luke played with the salt and pepper shakers on the counter. "Have you heard from Maddie?"

Henry turned back around. "Yeah. She is really liking Wesleyan."

Luke smiled. "That's great. I kind of hoping that she would come to Oakdale for Christmas."

Henry went back to cleaning the counter. "She just wasn't ready to come back yet. Maybe in the summer."

Luke looked down at the shakers. "I'm sorry she got hurt. It was the last thing that I wanted, but there was no way around it, I guess."

Henry leaned on the counter. "It's just as much my fault. I was the one that told her about my suspicions about the Colonel."

Luke nodded. "I guess we all played a part in it. I just miss her. We trade e-mails, but they are usually short and it's not the same."

Henry went to get Luke's order. He put the order in front of Luke. "Don't worry. She asks about you every time we talk. I think she misses you too. How's Noah?"

Luke smiled and began to eat his lunch. "He's great. He was suppose to meet me here for lunch, but had to do some work for school."

Henry went to attend to another customer. "Well, tell him I said 'hi'"

Luke nodded. "I will."
