Luke was at the apartment he shared with Noah. He had been battling flu symptoms all week. He gulped down some cough and cold medicine.
Sitting at the computer in the bedroom, he e-mailed the Psychology teachers' assistant. He was doing a paper on 'Complementarity' between two males. (it explains the opposing traits and attraction of two people, determining the active/passive, and the dominant/submissive roles.)
Luke typed
Brent, I understand that a dominant male is usually attracted to a submissive male. Can't they eventually exchange roles? It says in the research I'm doing that the relationship can run aground if one person wants to change the complementary role. Why would that be so hard to do?

Luke, From what I understand, it is difficult to change roles because usually the dominant person has the idea that his situation is sexually arousing. He may have the fantasy that, say you on the bottom for instance, will even heighten his sexual arousal. Even his orgasm reinforces all of those behaviors of being on top. Luke got undressed and slid between the satin sheets Noah bought for him. He pulled the comforter over his head.

Noah noticed the computer was still on. He typed in Luke's password. Noah read the research paper Luke had been working on.
Then Noah checked the e-mails. One was from Lily inviting them out for a home cooked meal after Luke felt better.
The rest were between Brent and Luke. He read them all as his anger rose.
Then he thought maybe Brent was just kidding. But he wanted to find out for sure.
Noah typed to Brent.
Brent, I was thinking. Were you serious before when you wanted to see if I could handle the top?
Brent replied. Sure I'd love to help you with your research, Luke.

Luke woke up early in the morning and took a shower. He left Noah sleeping in bed and sat at the computer. He tuned it on and checked his e-mails. There had been a few that had been moved to trash.
He brought them up and read them. He didn't remember flirting with Brent at all.

He took some more medicine and quickly scribbled out a note
Noah, I Feel better. I'm going to the grocery store. See ya later. Please print out my paper for psych. Class. I didn't want the noise to wake you up.

Luke walked downtown.
Noah woke up alone. He got up in his boxers and read the note. He grabbed the carton of O.J. from the fridge, took a drink and brought it into the bedroom.
Noah sat in the chair by the computer desk. He turned on the computer then printed all nine pages of Luke's research paper. He checked Luke's e-mail. There was one message.
Noah debated whether to open it then hit 'get mail.'
He didn't recognize the e-mail address. He decided open it.
The message was 26 minutes old. It read:

It's Brent, had to change my e-mail so I could talk to you without it being traced back to the university. How are you?
