As I walked into Java I was taken away by the cute barista standing behind the counter. I tried not to blush or stare at him as I waited in line. Yet, I had to sneak a peek and glanced up at him. His dazzling smile filled the room as he laughed softly to something that one of his customers said. Ever since I first laid eyes on Noah Mayer in my film class at Oakdale University I’ve had a horrible crush on him. I love his stunning blue eyes and wavy brown hair, his strong muscular chest and strong athletic body. I was too shy in the film class to introduce myself, but every day I stare across the lecture hall and day dream about him. As I waited in line for my coffee I once again started to day dream about the way he would carry me across the threshold into my dorm room and start to whisper in my ear before I got to know him further. Wow, I needed to stop this fantasy and get back to reality.

It was at this moment that the door to the coffee shop swung open and another highly attractive student came into the store. Why was his name…? Luke Snyder, right. We had both been in the club for the student paper. Noah ‘s back was turned to the door but when he turned around he smiled like I had never seen before. With that Luke came to the front of the line and leaned into the counter while Noah stopped was he was doing and whispered something softly into his ear, before Luke’s smile turned mischievous as he went sit done by the table and pick a book out of his backpack.

It was finally my turn in line as my heart started to beat harder in my chest as I placed my order. I was so distracted by Noah’s gorgeous eyes and kind face that I stammered as I tried to remember my order. “Tall or grande?” Noah asked in a smooth voice as he smiled at me. “Tall would be great,” I replied shyly thinking to myself that he was the perfect height, in fact almost everything about him was perfect and once I got to know him I was sure his personality would match his good looks. I went to sit down by the window as helped his final two customers with his orders.

Noah then walked up to Luke’s table with an order as he placed it in front of him, causing Luke to look up and smile. That’s weird, I didn’t remember Luke placing an order with Noah, maybe he was a regular and Noah knew what he wanted. But it wasn’t normal for the barista to sit down with the customers, was it? Or flirt with them? It did seem like that was what Noah was doing with Luke as he cleared a piece a hair away from Luke’s face and softly said something again, causing Luke to giggle. Luke’s lips moved as he responded to something Noah said. Wow, I hadn’t realized before that Luke was pretty cute too- not quite my type like Noah was, but still very handsome, with soft lips and an angelic face.

I chastised myself for being so shy in class and not introducing myself to Noah earlier. Why did I have to be so shy around boys? I was good looking, or so I was told by my friends. It wasn’t like I had been rejected before, in fact guys had hit on me at parties. Even girls had flirted with me once or twice, even though I am not a lesbian - not that I have anything against gay people. I wonder if Noah is shy too? I should just go up to him now and not be afraid of getting rejected. What should I say? One of my friends had told me to be myself and everything would work out. I started to collect my things as I glanced back at his table.

Wait, what was he doing? I could swear that he had his legs wrapped around Luke’s. Was he playing footsie with a customer? Noah wouldn’t hit on random guys would he? Was he gay? The guy that almost every girl in my dorm had a crush on? He definitely didn’t give off any “gay” signals. He didn’t dress flamboyantly or talk funny or even flirt with guys from class. He was the perfect gentleman, always holding doors for people and being polite. One of my roommates even told me that he lent her his textbook once when she forgot it. Wait, but then why would he be giving Luke a look like that. And why would Luke be staring into Noah’s eyes? Well, I mean I understand perfectly why someone could get lost in his blue eyes and perfect features, but they looked like more than just friends. Much more.

It’s a good thing I had waited to go up to his table. That would have been very embarrassing. At least now he will never know about my impossible crush. As a single tear left my eye I laughed to myself. Just my luck. It was at this moment that Noah leaned across the table to place on of his hands around Luke’s back and the other one his cheek as he parted his lips. Luke smiled into the kiss and closed his eyes as Noah deepened the kiss and caressed Luke’s cheek. Luke then leaned his forehead against Noah’s and they shared a look as if they were the only two that existed in the coffee shop. Noah then glanced back down at Luke’s lips and resumed their kiss.

As I slowly looked away from the table of my crush I realized that that would never be me. I would never receive that look from Noah. I would never be the one he wrapped his arms around and carried across the threshold. He would never touch my face and fantasize about me. He never would be mine, never could be mine. Even though he had a perfect heart he could never love me.
